Mid-Face Lift

The mid-face lift is a facial rejuvenation procedure that lifts cheeks vertically, opposite to the pull of gravity, to create a natural refreshed appearance. This procedure can improve the look of the cheekbones, refresh the hollows of the lower eyes, soften smile lines, and lift the corners of the mouth. Compared to a traditional facelift, the mid-face lift is a shorter operation with a much quicker recovery time. This technique is particularly well-suited to middle-aged and younger patients, making a dramatic change in the way one looks by lifting sagging muscles and skin of the cheeks and jowls.

Because this procedure corrects some of the early signs of aging, Dr. Westine finds it gives a “refreshed” appearance to somebody who has started the aging process but does not yet feel the need for a full facelift (rhytidectomy), which also involves the forehead, neck, and jawline.

Dr. Westine may suggest combining the mid-face lift with an endoscopic brow lift for more dramatic results. The combined procedure rejuvenates the cheekbone area and brightens the eyes. Many people in their late thirties to late forties can have marked improvements in their appearance with a procedure whose scars are all hidden in the hairline.

A mid-face lift addresses a specific area of the face with less trauma and faster recovery times than a full facelift. Mid-face lifts help individuals to look refreshed and rejuvenated, with results that are more permanent than injectables and more subtle than a traditional facelift.

Initial Consultation

When patients consult for the first time with Dr. Westine about facial plastic surgery, it's quite common for them to focus on a single aspect of their appearance rather than the overall picture. As Dr. Westine is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, trained to perform plastic surgery exclusively on faces and necks, he knows that his responsibility is to evaluate not only the areas of concern, but also the motivation behind the requests. Some patients may not be ready for cosmetic surgery and are better served with conservative measures, such as Botox for treatment of fine lines and fillers for deeper wrinkles. By helping patient educate themselves about facial rejuvenation, they will know when and if the time is right to proceed.

When discussing rejuvenation procedures, the best place to start is by looking at before-and-after photos to see just what can be accomplished. As you will see in our photo gallery, patients often ask to combine a mid-face lift with other cosmetic surgery. Eyelid lift, chin implants, rhinoplasty (nasal surgery), otoplasty (ear surgery), and lip surgery can also be performed in conjunction with a mid-face lift.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Westine evaluates the bony and soft tissue architecture of your face and neck. Assessment of the face and neck provides the basis for what one may expect from a mid-face lift. Skin type, ethnic background, and age, along with the degree of degeneration and function, are important factors influencing the outcome of surgery.

As with all facial plastic surgery, a thorough health assessment and realistic expectations are prerequisites. Your understanding of procedures, routines, and risks is essential to a successful final result. Following your consultation, we continue our discussion at the preoperative appointment.

The success and safety of your surgery depends very much on your complete candidness during your initial consultation. Dr. Westine will ask a number of questions about your health, desires, and lifestyle.
